On May 13, 2022 at approximately 5:40 p.m., Spokane police received a 911 call from Delilah, 9, who informed her sister, Stella, 7, that she was biking in the area of 5400 N Helena St. when 3 teenage men pushed her off the bike and drove off. The bike was described as pink with pom poms hanging from the handles.
Constable J Druitt responded to contact the young girls. Stella told her that the bike was a special gift from her mother. She was riding it when the 3 teenagers pushed her, kicked her in the stomach, called her vulgar names, then drove off. The suspects have not been identified at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
Officer Druitt spoke with Officer E Specht, who is part of the SPD’s Tactical Team (TAC) which oversees the Bicycle Rapid Response Team (BRRT). Officer Specht thought it would be appropriate for the TAC team to replace the bicycle. After receiving approval from TAC team management, the two officers drove to a local store where they purchased a new bike for Stella. See the attached photo (posted with parental approval) of Officers Druitt and Specht with Stella and her new bike.
Law enforcement often faces the most difficult and depressing times in people’s lives. We’re always looking for opportunities to do good and make a difference, like Druitt and Specht did today. We wish Stella many safe and fun trips on her new bike!
